was just starting at a fremont business yesterday afternoon. they show flames shooting through the roof and a towering column of black smoke. the fire destroyed c & h enterprises on boggs terrace in fremont and some of the neighbors were told to stay indoors. cbs 5 reporter anne makovec is at the machine shop that burned in fremont with the very latest. good morning, anne. >> reporter: good morning. the smoke has cleared here but the investigation has yet to begin as you mentioned. investigators are expected to be here this morning. once they make sure that the building has been shored up, significant damage to the building that you can see here behind me. in fact, part of the roof chanced during that fire. here's that video from yesterday afternoon. it sent up a huge plume of black smoke when it started here at c & h enterprises at around 12:45 p.m. the company specializes in machining and welding precision parts. fire officials say a grinding operation involving metal shavings was under way when this broke out. the employees ran for their lives. everyone got out okay. then there was c

4 was shut down for a time last night due to rocks and a downed power line. fremont is also back open after being shut down due to floods caused by a clogged storm drain. >>> ktvu channel 2 morning news reporter allie rasmus is live at fso reporting significant delays. >> reporter: things are a lot better and we just checked with the duty manager. there is no rain, no low clouds but it is expected to be a busy travel day. take a look behind us, you can see the cars and vehicles pulling up to the curbs as they move from the parking shuttle and people are getting ready to arrive into the airport as the they check into their flight. 1 20,000 last minute holiday travelers are expected to pass through today. last night at fso it was a different story with a one to two hour departure and especially flights coming in from the west coast of denver and that was of course because of all the stormy weather we had yesterday. 81 flights were canceled and today it was a different story but at least so far, travelers tell us why they have decided to fly out today on christmas eve. >> they start

toward the area. we'll get more throughout the winter but not tomorrow. highs today, fremont 63, concord 61, 61 san francisco, half moon bay 60, santa cruz 59, sonoma 56. chilly and humid today. here's hi-def doppler. yes, there are some yellows on your television screen. let's investigate a bit. we have some showers heading over point reyes and we also have some -- one heavier shower passing over calistoga and will miss st. helena by about 5 miles to your north and west. so why is this just rain and not a storm? that bears explaining. i'm going to do that now. northern california is going to get some rainfall. two things have changed. first, the atmosphere isn't as juicy. there's a certain water content that we can measure in the atmosphere and this particular system doesn't have as much as the past three that you endured over five days. so not as much juice in the atmosphere and notice everything is lifting to our north and west because that's where the focus of the jet stream energy is. it's been pushed a little to the north because of high pressure building in off the southern califo

than yesterday. 54 in fremont. 51 in san rafael and about 50 degrees in fairfield. so these temperatures are maybe slightly cooler than ba we saw yesterday. the biggest difference is the rain. that's what you'll notice once again remains unsettled through the weekend at least on saturday. mostly sunny skies sunday. chance of rain returns for new year's eve but for right now, new year's eve night and new year's day both look dry with more statehouse returning by wednesday. showers returning by wednesday. >>> no metering lights on the bay bridge all week long so things are flowing nicely into s no delay all across the upper deck. we'll go to some other maps and live traffic cameras. this is the san mateo bridge. this is the commute direction. obviously it has not been much of a commute at all this week. it's been quiet in both directions of westbound and eastbound 92. and to milpitas now 880 and 237 if you are crossing any of these spans westbound 237 looks good for the silicon valley ride. the nimitz you may still find some roadwork in lanes but they should have wrapped
